The Isle Of Klezbos was formed, as an all-female offshoot of Metropolitan Klezmer, by bandleader and drummer extraordinaire Eve Sicular in 1998. As one might almost expect, the members of The Isle Of Klezbos come from as varied musical backgrounds as those of Metropolitan Klezmer.

Eve Sicular's own background includes zydeco/Cajun, rock, R&B, swing and klezmer, as well as Middle Eastern music. Pam Fleming, trumpeter, flugelhornist and composer, has a musical background that includes jazz and from salsa to swing and funk, as well as reggae, soca, rock, pop, and klezmer. Accordion player Rachelle Garniez has extensively explored such diverse styles as Cajun, Northern Brazilian, merengue, trad jazz, rock, and klezmer. Vocalist Deborah Karpel's background includes opera, art song, musical theatre, cabaret, jazz standards, as well as Yiddish song repertoire learned from her grandfather. Altoist and clarinetist Debra Kreisberg has played swing, funk, rock, Latin jazz, musical theatre, and classical. Catherine Popper, bassist, first studied classical bass, then gained a B.M. in jazz bass, and has extensive experience in jazz including free jazz, as well as rock, bluegrass and classical music.

With such a variety of backgrounds and influences and such wide-ranging experience, The Isle Of Klezbos are practically fated to be eclectic in a grand, cosmopolitan manner. Their diverse backgrounds and influences are subtly brought to bear upon Yiddish music and klezmer. Tradition is approached with exuberance, even irreverence, but always with due respect. The Isle Of Klezbos match superb musicianship with technical excellence, all of impeccable pedigree. They have proven themselves to be a very versatile and flexible ensemble, even melding seamlessly with Metropolitan Klezmer, Eve Sicular's other band, for their album Mosaic Persuasion.

They have also proven themselves a popular fixture on gig and concert circuits and have appeared on radio and TV. The Isle Of Klezbos have also recorded their debut solo album, which is scheduled for release in April 2003 and eagerly awaited.

The Isle Of Klezbos' recordings are distributed worldwide by Stern's Music Ltd.
