Regrettably, another site update much delayed due to circumstances beyond my control. However, slowly catching up, bit by bit. Thus, again in brief.

An addendum to a recent feature - [Report/Review - Addendum] Gilad Atzmon Panel Discussion on Jewish Identity Politics and Book Launch at Resource for London, Holloway, London N7, Monday 10th October 2011 - Addendum (Videos by Tali Atzmon). Almost complete video coverage of this excellent event. Meanwhile, Atzmon's detractors, even while stooping to the lowest possible tactics, keep shooting themselves in the foot. I guess they have never heard the old adage that the only bad publicity is no publicity!

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, site updates are regrettably three in number and about three weeks behind. Today sees the first of these at last.

Today, a report/review feature of Gilad Atzmon's Panel Discussion on Jewish Identity Politics and Book Launch at Resource for London, Holloway, London N7, Monday 10th October 2011. Part of the launch for Atzmon's controversial The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics, the event was an unqualified success, attracting a large crowd and a tiny band of pickets from the 'Jews only' club J-BIG. A fascinating event, both illuminating and stimulating. It's a pity events such as this couldn't be held at venues of ten times the capacity or more - the subject deserves, nay needs, esposure to the widest possible public. Oh, and J-BIG and all ye other opponents, why not come inside and participate in civilised, reasoned discussion instead of ineffectually standing outside in the cold?

Another very illuminating review of Atzmon's The Wandering Who? comes from singer extraordinaire Heidi Vogel on Worldnews.com. This should not be passed over by anyone with the slightest interest in this subject. Extremely well written and keenly observed.

The next (second) outstanding site update will follow very shortly.

A new article, The Neo-Book Burners And 'The People Of The Book', deals with the smear campaigns against Gilad Atzmon and his latest book The Wandering Who? (reviewed here last month) and those who are in support. We can only express our fullest solidarity with and support for Atzmon and the cause of freedom. We also quote Atzmon's article Are They Really 'The People Of The Book?' of 29th September in full. Find out who the would-be neo-book burners and those who would rob us of our freedom of speech are!

There is also a new film by Tali Atzmon on YouTube, Gilad Atzmon speaks about The Wandering Who?, Israel, Zionism, Jewishness, Jewish identity politics, tribalism and so on. It is also embedded in the above article.

Gilad Atzmon's The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics is being launched within the framework of A Panel Discussion on 'Jewish Identity Politics' at Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA on Monday, 10th October from 7.30-9.30 pm. Rainlore's World of Music urges every freedom-lover to come and attend this event and support Gilad Atzmon and the cause of free speech.

Here is part of the publishers' blurb: Zero Books invites you to a panel discussion on "Jewish Identity Politics" to launch Gilad Atzmon's important new book The Wandering Who. Jewish identity and Jewish Politics are loaded topics and Jewish identity is tied up with some of the most difficult and contentious issues of today. Yet, not many people, if any at all, would dare touch upon these subjects. surrounding the role of 'Jewish identity' within Jewish marginal discourses including Zionism, Jewish anti Zionism, Jewish assimilation, Israel vs. Diaspora, Israeli lobbying and more. The Wandering Who? A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics (Zero Books 2011) is praised by some of the most respected scholars within the relevant discourse.

Panelists:

Glenn Bowman is a Social Anthropologist who has worked in Jerusalem and the West Bank throughout the past 25 years. He is concerned with religion and identity politics, an interest which also involved him in (now Former) Yugoslavia between 1990 and the present.

Oren Ben Dor is a Reader in the Philosophy of Law at The University of Southampton. He is the author of Constitutional Limits and the Public Sphere (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2000); Thinking about Law: in Silence with Heidegger (Oxford: Hart Publishing 2007) as well as the editor of Law and Art: Ethics, Aesthetics Justice, (London: Routledge 2011). Oren writes on the uncanny origin of political emergence as well as on originary violence in Palestine. He explores the existential relationship between the Jewish and the Zionist Questions.

Karl Sabbagh is a journalist, television producer and the author of several books including A Rum Affair, Power Into Art, Dr Riemann’s Zeros and Palestine: A Personal History. He is currently the publisher of Hesperus Press.

Facilitator: Irving Rappaport is a commercial and community mediator and trainer with a special interest in the use of proven peaceful techniques for the prevention and resolution of violent conflicts both internationally and in the UK.

This current site update was originally scheduled to 'go live' around the 26th/27th April. However, the computer had different plans and decided to die on the 21st! RIP - Rust in pieces! As current computer arrangements are of a temporary nature and I am only able to work on the site intermittently, site updates may regrettably be a little sporadic for the time being. However, to compensate, today's update is a real cracker!

After almost six months in preparation, a major new feature is finally here and exclusive to Rainlore's World of Music. In 2006, jazz giant Gilad Atzmon released the momentous album, Gilad Atzmon Presents Artie Fishel And The Promised Band. Associated with this was also an online game, The Bagel Shooter Game. We are now able to proudly present, courtesy of Gilad Atzmon, The Artie Fishel Bagel Pages, which also include The Bagel Shooter Game, A Brief Guide To Artie Fishel And The Promised Band, and the already previously published fiction, What Country Is Artie Fishel Hiding In? Artie F. just will not go away! And there will be more to come! The game's objective is to shoot down Artie Fishel - as often as you can! - with bagels for ammo. It's as insane and inane as befits the Artie Fishel character and myth, and it's great fun. The guide is a short intro to Artie F. and the whole concept, the satire, the politics, and the music. The fictional What Country Is Artie Fishel Hiding In? - already previously published here in March - is a humorous/satirical 'article' that was inspired by repeated search engine queries of that nature leading to this site and explores why Artie F. might be in hiding.

But what of Artie Fishel himself? Shall we see this great, if politically utterly misguided and despicable even, musician returning to the concert platform and/or the recording studio in the future? Who knows. Only one man can answer that question. We can but hope!

Last but by no means least, all the latest re: the DJ Ritu's A World in London and Folkwaves campaigns, plus the most recent AWiL show of 20th April embedded on the page, in 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 8th May 2011. AWiL is now also available via Radio Groovalizacion - see the article for details, or of course DJ Ritu's web site. Also look out on her site for the latest edition of AWiL, which should be along anytime now. You just can't beat A World in London and DJ Ritu - best world music DJ!

Articles and features offer varied fare today. We have an exclusive interview with violinist extraordinaire and singer Lizzie Ball, whose latest wonderful album with one of her ensembles, the jazz-oriented Eclectica!, Flight Of Fancy has just been released (and which we reviewed here some time ago already). It proved a fascinating chat, in which we also talked about Ms. Ball's work with Nigel Kennedy and his Orchestra of Life, Eclectica! and her love of all types of music among lots of other topics. (This should have been here with the previous site update but due to time constraints had to wait for today.)

As usual, the 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 22nd March 2011 brings you all the latest news, info, comment, gossip and more about the campaigns to have BBC Local Radio shows DJ Ritu's A World in London, Mick & Lester's Folkwaves and others restored to their rightful places and to save BBC Local Radio itself. And of course there's news from DJ Ritu herself and her latest A World in London Goes Solo cloudcast for March 21st, now available on Mixcloud and of course also embedded on the current campaigns news page, and more. As usual, DJ Ritu brings you the best in global sounds in this week's AWiL so be sure to have a listen to the UK's premier world music show! With everything and anything from world beat and global fusion to world jazz and folk/traditional, there's something for everybody.

Not only, but also: What Country Is Artie Fishel Hiding In? is a humorous, semi-satirical fictional look at that question, which was inspired by some peculiar search engine queries of that nature that led to this site. Artie F., of course, is none other but modern jazz legend Gilad Atzmon's invention and alter ego from his 2006 album, Gilad Atzmon Presents Artie Fishel And The Promised Band. But, it would seem, some folks out there are so 'out there,' they seem to believe the mysterious Artie F. really exists. No harm playing along with the idea...

2011/03/14

All the latest news, info, comment and more from the campaigns concerning DJ Ritu's A World in London and Mick Peat's and Lester Simpson's Folkwaves shows can be found on its own latest feature page, 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 13th March 2011. This includes news of an exciting new campaign to Save BBC Local Radio, which, as suspected for some time, is facing a very real threat of being terminated. To show that it's not all doom and gloom, there's also very exciting news of DJ Ritu's (temporary) new A World in London cloudcast of March 11th - more than that, it's even embedded on the page!

And so Panorama and carnival in Trinidad & Tobago have been and gone for another year. The feature 2011 Trinidad & Tobago Panorama Championships - Full Results lists all the results of this year's competition and proffers some comment, particular on the scandalous circumstances surrounding Renegades' semis performance which will forever remain a blot on PanTrinbago if not pan itself, as well as the lamentable state of affairs of the pan movement and Panorama itself.

At the moment, the results of the zonal preliminaries for the Traditional Bands are still missing but will be added in a 'silent' update probably in the next few days. Errors and omissions have almost certainly occurred in the process of compiling these results. Any corrections would be gratefully received through the Feedback form.

N.B. - Upload of this current site update has been delayed by one day due to unavoidable circumstances.

All the latest news, info, comment, gossip and more from the Save DJ Ritu's A World in London show on BBC London and Save' Folkwaves' on BBC Radio Derby campaigns can be found on the feature page 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 4th March 2011. Not only that, but there's also some very exciting news from DJ Ritu herself!

Also there is a new and I hope fairly self-explanatory supplement, Supplementary Notes To DJ Ritu's A World in London Iranian Music Special With Fari Bradley of 4th December, 2010. What is says on the tin, more or less. It delves into a few aspects of Persian classical music and some of its instruments and its/their relationship to North Indian or Hindustani classical music and instruments that were not possible to be covered in DJ Ritu's superb Iranian music special with Fari Bradley (embedded on the page) given that the show's focus was more on the popular side of Iranian music and was limited to one hour. This supplement follows a discussion with DJ Ritu and is based on a slightly more compact version published in the thread announcing the availability of the show on Mixcloud on the Facebook page of the Save A World in London campaign.

And that conveniently leads us to the next topic. The lengthy, extended news items from the Other World Music page with all the latest news, info, comment, gossip and more concerning the Save DJ Ritu's A World in London show on BBC London and Save' Folkwaves' on BBC Radio Derby campaigns for 24th January and 1st and 8th February have been moved to their own pages, respectively: 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 24th January 2011, 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 1st February 2011, and 'Specialist Music' On BBC Local Radio Campaigns News 8th February 2011. This will make it much easier to access and reference what was going on on the campaign fronts for the respective dates.
