Regrettably, another site update much delayed due to circumstances beyond my control. However, slowly catching up, bit by bit. Thus, again in brief.

An addendum to a recent feature - [Report/Review - Addendum] Gilad Atzmon Panel Discussion on Jewish Identity Politics and Book Launch at Resource for London, Holloway, London N7, Monday 10th October 2011 - Addendum (Videos by Tali Atzmon). Almost complete video coverage of this excellent event as part of the launch for Gilad Atzmon's controversial book, The Wandering Who? Meanwhile, Atzmon's detractors, even while stooping to the lowest possible tactics, keep shooting themselves in the foot. I guess they have never heard the old adage that the only bad publicity is no publicity!

Due to unforeseen circumstances beyond my control, site updates are regrettably three in number and about three weeks behind. Today sees the first of these at last.

Today, a report/review of Gilad Atzmon's Panel Discussion on Jewish Identity Politics and Book Launch at Resource for London, Holloway, London N7, Monday 10th October 2011. Part of the launch for Atzmon's controversial The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics, the event was an unqualified success, attracting a large crowd and a tiny band of pickets from the 'Jews only' club J-BIG. A fascinating event, both illuminating and stimulating. It's a pity events such as this couldn't be held at venues of ten times the capacity or more - the subject deserves, nay needs, esposure to the widest possible public. Oh, and J-BIG and all ye other opponents, why not come inside and participate in civilised, reasoned discussion instead of ineffectually standing outside in the cold?

Another very illuminating review of Atzmon's The Wandering Who? comes from singer extraordinaire Heidi Vogel on Worldnews.com. This should not be passed over by anyone with the slightest interest in this subject. Extremely well written and keenly observed.

The next (second) outstanding site update will follow very shortly.

A new article, The Neo-Book Burners And 'The People Of The Book', deals with the smear campaigns against Gilad Atzmon and his latest book The Wandering Who? (reviewed here last month) and those who are in support. We can only express our fullest solidarity with and support for Atzmon and the cause of freedom. We also quote Atzmon's article Are They Really 'The People Of The Book?' of 29th September in full. Find out who the would-be neo-book burners and those who would rob us of our freedom of speech are!

There is also a new film by Tali Atzmon on YouTube, Gilad Atzmon speaks about The Wandering Who?, Israel, Zionism, Jewishness, Jewish identity politics, tribalism and so on. It is also embedded in the above article.

Gilad Atzmon's The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics is being launched within the framework of A Panel Discussion on 'Jewish Identity Politics' at Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA on Monday, 10th October from 7.30-9.30 pm. Rainlore's World of Music urges every freedom-lover to come and attend this event and support Gilad Atzmon and the cause of free speech.

Here is part of the publishers' blurb: Zero Books invites you to a panel discussion on "Jewish Identity Politics" to launch Gilad Atzmon's important new book The Wandering Who. Jewish identity and Jewish Politics are loaded topics and Jewish identity is tied up with some of the most difficult and contentious issues of today. Yet, not many people, if any at all, would dare touch upon these subjects. surrounding the role of 'Jewish identity' within Jewish marginal discourses including Zionism, Jewish anti Zionism, Jewish assimilation, Israel vs. Diaspora, Israeli lobbying and more. The Wandering Who? A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics (Zero Books 2011) is praised by some of the most respected scholars within the relevant discourse.

Panelists:

Glenn Bowman is a Social Anthropologist who has worked in Jerusalem and the West Bank throughout the past 25 years. He is concerned with religion and identity politics, an interest which also involved him in (now Former) Yugoslavia between 1990 and the present.

Oren Ben Dor is a Reader in the Philosophy of Law at The University of Southampton. He is the author of Constitutional Limits and the Public Sphere (Oxford: Hart Publishing, 2000); Thinking about Law: in Silence with Heidegger (Oxford: Hart Publishing 2007) as well as the editor of Law and Art: Ethics, Aesthetics Justice, (London: Routledge 2011). Oren writes on the uncanny origin of political emergence as well as on originary violence in Palestine. He explores the existential relationship between the Jewish and the Zionist Questions.

Karl Sabbagh is a journalist, television producer and the author of several books including A Rum Affair, Power Into Art, Dr Riemann’s Zeros and Palestine: A Personal History. He is currently the publisher of Hesperus Press.

Facilitator: Irving Rappaport is a commercial and community mediator and trainer with a special interest in the use of proven peaceful techniques for the prevention and resolution of violent conflicts both internationally and in the UK.

2011/09/20:

What other titan of the jazz world is there who is also an acclaimed author? Reviewed here, Gilad Atzmon's The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics is exactly what it says and will now be published on 30th September by Zero Books. Controversial, revealing, illuminating and engaging, witty and thought-provoking, The Wandering Who? should be a must-read for anybody concerned about truth and freedom. A fairly orthodox friend once remarked about Atzmon with a certain admiration, 'He's got big ones! Real big baytzim (balls).' Made of hardened steel. And he's going to need them, more than ever. The hate and intimidation campaigns by Atzmon's detractors from left, right and centre are already well underway. Read! Before the book burners come!

The launch for Gilad Atzmon's The Wandering Who? - A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics takes place within the framework of A Panel Discussion on 'Jewish Identity Politics' at Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA on Monday, 10th October from 7.30-9.30 pm.

The publication date of jazz giant and activist Gilad Atzmon's latest and eagerly anticipated book, The Wandering Who? is set for 4th October. Subtitled A Study Of Jewish Identity Politics, it is published by Zero Books and can already be pre-ordered on Amazon and Amazon UK. The Wandering Who? is a brilliant, courageous study as well as critical reflection on Jewish ethnocentrism that provides revealing and profound insights into the neo-ghetto mentality and politics of both the perceived Jewish diaspora and the Israeli Jewish state. This is Atzmon at his most illuminating, erudite yet accessible best! Expect a full review shortly.

Jazzy singer-songwriter extraordinaire Sarah Gillespie is teaming up with Oxford's renowned Caroline Bird for a veritable poetry fest at Albion Beatnik Bookstore, 34 Walton Street, Oxford OX2 6AA, on 31st March from 8-9.30pm. Admission is £4, and refreshments will be available. Ms. Gillespie will be reciting her own extraordinary and exquisite poetry and singing some of her songs with acoustic guitar, and onetime Oxford University Poetry Society president Ms. Bird will be presenting her own excellent poetry.

Also: What Country Is Artie Fishel Hiding In? is a humorous, semi-satirical fictional look at that question, which was inspired by some peculiar search engine queries of that nature that led to this site. Artie F., of course, is none other but modern jazz legend Gilad Atzmon's invention and alter ego from his 2006 album, Gilad Atzmon Presents Artie Fishel And The Promised Band. But, it would seem, some folks out there are so 'out there,' they seem to believe the mysterious Artie F. really exists. No harm playing along with the idea and exploring a few others along the way...
